GOLF OUTING SUCCESSFUL!
“If you need us, we’ll be back next year ... first class event,” said Tay Baker, one of the 76 golfers participating in the first annual Control Your Diabetes Golf Tournament held August 29, 2011, at the Hidden Valley Golf Club in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

Baker and the other golfers enjoyed a day of food, fun and competition all in the spirit of helping others: The event raised over $21,000 to implement a new peer-to-peer mentoring program to support diabetics in the area. Hidden Valley Golf Club Manager Pat Sullivan said: “I feel like I made a real difference participating in this charitable golf event because 100% of the money went directly to a local effort that will help those living with diabetes get better control of their disease.”
The following foursome placed first:
- Mike Cordesman
- Larry Masminster
- Mike Nagy
- Terry Wall
The second place team included:

“This tournament exceeded all of our expectations,” said Jill Baker Braun, Tournament Director/CII Board Member. “The number of people that participated was incredible for the first year of a golf tournament, especially in light of the number of established tournaments in the area that decreased in golfers and dollars raised or had to be cancelled altogether.”
The tournament raised over $21,000. The funds will be used to launch the Diabetes Mentoring Program in Greater Cincinnati. The new program will kick off in 2012 and will use the valuable experience of those with type 1 diabetes to mentor those who are newly diagnosed or who simply want to do a better job controlling their disease.
The tournament’s presenting sponsor was Abbott Diabetes Care and major sponsors included Animas, Dexcom, LifeScan, and Mortgage House of America.
